In June, the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank implemented a client data tracking program to learn more about its clientele.
The program is a web-based tracking system that gives the Food Bank and its partner agencies the ability to customize and grow as their needs change, said Casey Cowan, director of client services.
“The NWA Food Bank’s goal was to research and implement a uniform Client Data Tracking system within our 150-plus partner agencies to acquire better demographics from pantries and their clients in order to tell a more detailed story of who we serve,” said Cowan. “In doing this, our primary objective was to learn how to serve our clients better and become a better liaison to our agencies.”
Since June 2017, the program has been implemented into four pantries using the Oasis Insight Plus program, she said, and she hopes to implement the program into 85 percent of the more than 150-member agencies by the end of 2018.
The data collected for the last six months of the year from the four sites shows that 2,567 households with 7,950 people were served in the four locations. Of those 7,950 household members, 5,050 received USDA assistance.
The residential status of the 7,950 household members found that 109 were homeless; 170 were at risk of being homeless; 1,783 owned their homes; 5,312 rented their homes; 173 were transient; and 403 had unknown residential status.
Of the 2,567 heads of households, 174 were college graduates; 369 had some college; 979 were high school graduates or had a GED; 715 had not completed high school; and 330 had unknown educational status.
Of the 2,567 heads of households, 365 had full-time employment; 219 were employed part time; 1,048 were unemployed; 772 were retired; and 163 had unknown employment status.
In Benton, Washington, Madison, and Carroll counties, which are served by the Food Bank, there are more than 70,000 people who are food insecure.
