FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Forty-five students from the Wesley College Ministry at the University of Arkansas gathered Aug. 14 at the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank to bag 6,000 pounds of sweet potatoes into 10-pound sacks. Last year the students bagged 3,000 pounds of sweet potatoes. Part of a welcoming week event, the students wanted to be part of something that was relevant to the community, so they choose hunger to make that impact, according to Andy Lemmon, state program coordinator of the Society of St. Andrews, Little Rock. Lemmon arranged for the sweet potatoes, which were not perfect for market, through a partnering Arkansas farmer. The potatoes were transported to the Food Bank by the Arkansas Gleaning Project.
