FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Tom A. Throne, staff writer for the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank, will be inducted into the Kansas Newspaper Hall of Fame by the Kansas Press Association. The ceremony will take place on Feb. 9, in Topeka, Kan., during the organization’s annual meeting.
Throne worked in Kansas newspaper for more than 35 years. He started in the newspaper business in 1972 as a photographer for The Junction City, Kan., Daily Union, where he first met Kent Eikenberry, current president and CEO of the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. Eikenberry worked in advertising sales.
He worked his way up to managing editor in Junction City and the managing editor of the McPherson, Kan., Sentinel in the mid-1980s, where he was promoted to editor and publisher in 1989. He later was the editor and publisher of the Leavenworth, Kan., Times and editor and general manager of the Junction City Daily Union.
He moved to Northwest Arkansas in 2010. He retired from the Bella Vista Weekly Vista in 2016, where he was the managing editor for four years.
Throne received numerous writing and photography awards during his newspaper career. He starting working for the Food Bank in November 2016.
