FOOD FOR THOUGHT
A Summer Hunger Cereal Drive, sponsored by General Mills, will be conducted from May 1-31 for the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.
The drive will be taking place at all Walmart stores, including the Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets in the four counties – Benton, Carroll, Madison and Washington – served by the Food Bank.
Those wanting to make donations can do so in two ways, said Travis Sorensen, development coordinator for the Food Bank. First, donations can be made at Walmart by purchasing cereal and putting it in bins located at the front of each store. Or cash donations can be made online at a giving page located at www.nwafoodbank.org/cereal-drive.
Englander is providing the donation bins at the stores, he added.
The cereal drive is aimed at getting a head start to fight summer hunger as school will be getting out at the end of May and students may not be receiving meal assistance from school, Sorensen said.
One in five children have food insecurities in Northwest Arkansas, he said.
